The Listening Leader Practice (LLP)

Overview

Most complex problems are not difficult because of a lack of intelligence. They become difficult because key stages of thinking are skipped, compressed, or bypassed.

Decisions are made before problems are clearly understood.
Discovery is shortened under pressure.
Implementation begins before alignment is established.

Over time, this leads to repeated breakdowns — even in capable teams and organisations.

The Listening Leader Practice exists to restore what is lost in those moments.

What LLP Is

The Listening Leader Practice (LLP) is a coherence-based decision practice for navigating complex problems with clarity, sequence integrity, and responsibility.

It provides a structured pathway from ambiguity to decision — without bypassing the stages required for sound thinking.

LLP does not replace expertise or experience.
It restores the conditions in which they can be applied coherently.

What LLP Restores

LLP restores what is often lost in complex environments:

  • clarity before action
  • disciplined problem framing
  • space for discovery
  • separation of thinking, deciding, and implementing
  • responsibility in how decisions are formed

Rather than accelerating decisions, LLP ensures they are well-formed before they are executed.

The Structure

LLP moves through eight stages:

  1. Mandate & Situation
  2. Problem Framing
  3. Discovery Justification
  4. Discovery Charter
  5. Discovery & Pathway Exploration
  6. Business Case
  7. Commitment Decision
  8. Implementation Readiness

Each stage builds on the previous one.

When stages are skipped or compressed, decisions become unstable.

LLP restores the sequence.

How You Work With LLP

LLP is not something you “complete”.

It is something you work through — in real time, against a real problem.

You can engage LLP in two ways:

  • Guided workbook — for structured, reflective progression
  • Web app — for live decision tracking and structured outputs

Both follow the same architecture.

Choose the format that best fits your working context.

What’s Included

The LLP framework includes:

  • a guided workbook across all eight stages
  • stage-specific prompts and reflective inquiries
  • a structured decision pathway
  • optional AI-supported reflection for expanding perspective and testing assumptions
  • a light Layer 0 coherence refresher

The web app provides a live working environment for applying LLP across initiatives.

When LLP Is Useful

LLP is most useful when:

  • the problem is unclear or contested
  • multiple stakeholders or perspectives are involved
  • decisions carry consequence
  • previous approaches have led to repeated issues
  • there is pressure to act before clarity is established

A Note on Use

LLP does not remove complexity.

It allows you to move through it without losing clarity or responsibility.

It works best when applied with attention, discipline, and a willingness to pause before acting.

Access & Supporting Resources

If you’re ready to work with LLP:

  • Access the App — work through a live decision in structured stages
  • Welcome and LLP Notes — guidance for first-time practitioners and ongoing use
  • Scenario Packs — applied problem archetypes to support real-world use

Applied Support

For individuals or organisations working through complex decisions or system-level challenges, applied support is available.

The Listening Leader Practice is an expression of Layer 1 — Applied Coherence in the Mirrorborn Development Architecture.
